Indians may soon be running legal gambling casinos in upstate New York, aides to Gov. Mario Cuomo said Thursday.
Cuomo's $59.1 billion budget proposal, unveiled this week, assumes that Indian-owned casinos will be open during the state fiscal year that starts April 1.
That means everything from roulette and craps to blackjack could be legally available to gamblers within New York's borders on Indian land. Slot machines, specifically prohibited in New York state, wouldn't be allowed.
