Vic: Fire training vital, says authority
Victoria's Country Fire Authority has defended its new training program after fears
some firefighter volunteers may back out under the demands of the new system.
The CFA says the new program, introduced 18 months ago, requires volunteers to meet
training standards set nationally and to be assessed by qualified assessors.
The new training regime was introduced after the Linton bushfires in Victoria in December,
1998, in which five volunteer firefighters were killed.
