NSW:Father's sentence appeal fails

SYDNEY, Feb 23 AAP - The father of a seven-year-old autistic girl who died of severe
malnutrition has failed in his bid to get a reduction of his 16-year jail term for her
manslaughter.

In dismissing the challenge on Wednesday, the NSW Court of Criminal Appeal said the
sentence imposed on the then 48-year-old man was "a heavy one".

But it was well within the range for a case falling within the "worst case category
for the crime of manslaughter".

Indeed, said Justice Anthony Whealy, the sentence imposed may have been "set at a higher level".
